P3 Eindhoven Airport

Eindhoven Airport is the second largest airport in The Netherlands. The airport serves as an important international gateway for the Brainport region, especially for foreign workers and talent.

Eindhoven Airport is involved in innovation projects in the region and strives for a sustainable and technologically progressive airport. The airport has ambitious sustainability goals and is working towards an energy neutral airport by 2030.

The airport is aware of it ’s impact on the environment and strives to make a positive contribution to the quality of life, especially through sustainability and dialogue. Project Parking P3 is part of this process and will be an energy neutral facility, even energy positive in the future.

The existing P3 parking building is a twice re-used parking which will have a newly constructed extension. The ground level parking in front of the building is designed by MTD as a green, climate-resilient landscape.

Two new equally wide volumes are added to the existing P3 garage, with the volume close to the terminal, higher than the rest. Making it the recognizable green front face of the P3 building. In this way 3 clear entrances for pedestrians from the green boulevard will be visible.

The sustainable ambition of Eindhoven Airport is translated into the facades on the terminal and city side. While the pragmatic side of flying is visible on the airside.The existing structure of columns and beams over the new building are created by CLT, carrying the wooden façade elements which span the (winter) green planting from the ground up in the building. The CLT beams provide a structure for the current amount of solar panels, but also for the newly added panels in the future. Making the CLT the carrier of durability.

The wooden façade elements, with their hanging plants also clad the existing P3 building, making the total 230 meter façade visible as one green statement.
